Use R3 to flick the ball and gain space
You can flick the ball if you hold R3 (Right Switch button) plus a direction before receiving a high ball (if you don't hold a direction, your player will start juggling).
While this may seem useless, it can be used to gain space in some situations, such as in this clip. It's not something you will use many times, but when pulled successfully, it opens up a lot of space.
Make sure you have a player with good ball control to attempt something like this.
